Since the onset of the pandemic in February of 2020, while cumulative inflation reached 28%, the median rent has increased a further degree at 32%, and the median house price has skyrocketed by a whopping 54%. This crisis has been felt acutely hard here in Pittsburgh, with median rents in the city rising 34% in the same time period–faster than the national average–and us students are facing the brunt of it.
